Domestic production, however, accounts for less than 1% of the world's oil output. Imports help India bridge this supply-demand gap. India is the world's second-largest importer of crude oil, trailing only China. With almost one-fifth of the overall value of imports, crude oil accounts for a significant portion of all imports into India.

India imported 17.62 TONNE Million of crude oil on average from 2014 to 2022, with a record high of 21.10 TONNE Million in October 2018 and a record low of 12.34 TONNE Million in July 2020.
